Nitronic 50, often referred to as XM-19, is a nitrogen-strengthened austenitic stainless steel that contains around 20–23% chromium, 11–13% nickel, 4–6% manganese, along with small amounts of molybdenum and nitrogen. This alloy boasts superior corrosion resistance compared to 316 and 317 stainless steels. It has a tensile strength of about 95 ksi (655 MPa) and a yield strength of 50 ksi (345 MPa), along with excellent elongation and toughness, even in low temperatures. The material is non-magnetic when annealed and retains its strength and corrosion resistance in both marine and chemical environments.
