Nitronic 40 is a high-performance austenitic stainless steel alloy, primarily made up of 19–21% chromium, 8.5–10.5% nickel, and 0.2–0.4% nitrogen, along with trace amounts of manganese and molybdenum. It boasts excellent resistance to high-temperature oxidation and enhanced mechanical strength compared to standard stainless steels. Typically, it has a tensile strength of about 95 ksi (655 MPa) and a yield strength of around 45 ksi (310 MPa). Nitronic 40 also retains good toughness at low temperatures and is non-magnetic when annealed, making it a great choice for critical aerospace and high-temperature applications.
