What is Mu Metal Bar and Rod?

Mu Metal bar and rod is the name of the high-permeability alloy most commonly used as a magnetic shield. The nominal composition of 77% Ni, 16% Fe, 5% Cu, with small amounts of Molybdenum (Mo) and others, makes the alloy very capable of exhibiting outstanding magnetic permeability. Its tensile strength lies in the region of 550 MPa with yield strength in the region of 250 MPa and 30-40% elongation. Mu Metal also boasts a high electrical resistivity, along with very low coercivity, which contributes to its effectiveness in reducing external magnetic interference.
